Sharps must be in a sharps container.
In 2020, the City of Boston passed an ordinance requiring most pharmacies to establish a sharps collection program. Any person may dispose of their sharps at any collection point, without charge, whether they purchased the sharps at that pharmacy or not.
It is against the law in the state of Massachusetts to dispose of sharps in the household trash.
